After ten album releases at Motown, Jermaine moved on to a new label called Arista Records where he released his album in April of 1984. In the U.S. and in Japan the album was released with the title Jermaine Jackson, and in Europe and most other parts of the world the album was released titled Dynamite. The album known as Dynamite became one of Jermaine’s best and most successful albums, reaching #13 in the U.S. R&B charts and #19 in the Pop charts.

A memorable song on the album is the duet with younger brother Michael, called “Tell Me I’m Not Dreamin’ (To Good To Be True)”. The song was the first choice to be released as a single, however due to label politics never released as such. Two songs from the album were released as a single. "Dynamite", which became a hit in the U.S., reached #8 in the R&B charts and #15 in the Pop charts. The second U.S. single also became a hit song: “Do What You Do”, reached #14 in the R&B charts and #13 in the Pop charts. “Do What You Do” was also released in Europe where it remains one of the most recognizable songs of Jermaine Jackson. In the UK and other European countries, the single “Sweetest Sweetest” was also released.

Another song that was added to Dynamite’s original tracklist in later European pressings of the album and released as a single was the “When The Rain Begins To Fall”, a duet with female singer Pia Zadora that remains a huge hit in Europe with daily radio air plays. The smash hit with Pia Zadora was also recorded in Spanish titled “Si Se Pone A Llover” and released on a Spanish 7” single.
